Casual Cocktail Dresses

I’m sure your school teachers told you that neatness counts. The obvious aspects are hair, nails, and clean clothes, but how far do you have to go for a cocktail party?

Make sure you accessorize suitably! You’re going to a casual cocktail party but you don’t want to appear underdressed or overdressed for the event. How do you know what’s appropriate and in style?

The truth is simple.

Here are a few options:

  • Cocktail Suit- If it’s not new then try it on beforehand. Nothing is worse than having a distracting conversation due to someone fidgeting with their clothes
  • Skirt and Blouse- A knee length seasonal skirt and a wrap top will definitely do the trick
  • Dress- A knee length cotton dress is nice and fun
A dress is not necessary for a casual event but if you’ve been looking for an excuse to pull out that cute dress then by all means go for it!

Stay away from:

  • Skin tight pants

Why? No matter what kind of get together you’re at tight pants gives the impression that you are wearing an everyday outfit.

  • Long Dresses

Why? Long Dresses are usually associated with formal events. If this is a casual get together then you’ll stick out like a sore thumb.

  • Tank tops and Tee shirts

Why? This is a cocktail party. Even if the invite says “casual”, a tank top or tee shirt is pretty tacky to wear attend in.

Preplan –
Start by taking a good, hard look at the contents of your closet. Try on all the outfits you think are cute but not over or under dressed.
If you don’t find the perfect outfit that’s cute and fits right then off to shopping.

A sales associate will be more than happy to assist you at finding a casual cocktail dress. In case they’re out of your size make sure there’s sufficient time to order one. When you know you look good, you feel good and can concentrate on having a great time!
