DIY Wine Glass Rack

Wine glass racks are a great way to show off your matching glassware in such a way as to both decorate your home as well as encourage guests to take a glass whenever they need one. But wine glass racks are simplistic enough that if you are good with tools, you may want to design one yourself rather than purchase one in the store. Below is a quick and easy way to make a wine glass rack using some simple tools you can find at any hardware store.

How to Make a Wine Glass Rack

Step 1 – Start by cutting a 12 x 48 inch stair tread into one 2 foot (24 inch) long piece of wood.

Step 2 – Prime and paint the board (optional but recommended)

Step 3 – After the paint has dried, find two metal brackets with designs that match your home’s décor (paint them the same color as the board if you painted the board).

Step 4 – There are many places to buy under-cabinet stemware racks. Find some at your local hardware shop that have the width of the bottom of the glasses you are using. Lay them end to end on the board, and mark the locations of the holds with a pencil – then drill the holes and attach the racks.

Step 5 – Find where you plan on placing the brackets on your wall and drill the wine rack in. Not only will you have created a wine glass rack, you will also have a new shelf in your kitchen for hanging plants or spices.

(Note: if you are really good with woodshop, rather than using stemware racks you can attach another piece of wood on the back of your wine glass rack, drill in holes a pre-specified distance apart and place thick round wood columns in the holes, hanging the glasses on those instead).

Once you are finished you will have an attractive wine glass rack that will please guests and create space in your cabinets.
