Frosted Drinking Glasses
How would you like to have an attention getting set of glassware for your next gathering? Sure, having friends over and hosting parties is always a good time. But wouldn’t it be nice to show your guests that you still have that “creative flair?”.
Of course you do, and that’s why we’re going to show you exactly how you can do it. Have you ever heard the expression “frosty mug” or “cold frosty beverage?” There’s something about an ice cold drink that makes the experience all the more appealing.
You’re about to learn how you can turn a typical set of glasses into an instant hit at your next gathering with it’s frosty look. Sure, you can buy a pre-made set of frosted glasses, but why not save the cash (Might need it for the drinks right?) and enjoy the creative process? Besides, how much fun is it to respond with “thanks, I made them myself” when receiving compliments?
Most of the items you’ll need to make these stunning glasses can be purchased at your local art and craft supply store. Here’s what you’ll need.
Materials required for Frosting:
- Set of glasses
- Small paintbrush
- Plastic gloves
- Etching cream
- Adhesive-backed lettering or shapes of choice
- Masking tape
- Paper towels
- Sponge
10 Steps for Frosting:
- Start with a clear, clean, and dry glass ready for frosting
- Place tape around the sections of glass that you don’t want to frost
- Choose the words or shapes you want on each glass
- Put on gloves to avoid skin contact with corrosive chemicals
- Evenly apply etching cream around glass with small paintbrush
- Let set for 8 minutes
- Saturate sponge with tepid water
- Use sponge to remove all excess cream from glass
- Peel off all tape, lettering, and shapes from glass
- Wash glass thoroughly before using
NOTE: Please be careful to avoid skin contact with the etching cream at all times
As you follow the 10 easy steps above, be mindful to keep the cream away from any area of the glass that you do not want frosted. It only takes a few seconds of contact for the cream to leave a permanent frost.
A few more helpful tips:
Try drawing a picture of what you want your glass to look like. Do you want the glasses to look cold and inviting? Perhaps you may want to frost letters or funny sayings into the glass? Names of friends or frequent guests could also be fun!
Regardless of the style, having a picture to keep you on track often helps. Besides, sometimes ideas look better in our head than the finished product, so getting that idea on paper will help you visualize it before you begin.
Follow your creative instinct. Try names of your favorite cities, sports teams, holidays etc. The point of this project is to have a great time, and create fond memories. You’ll be glad you did.
