Stocking Your Home Bar
Once you have completed your home bar, it's time to stock it up with the right spirits, wines and beers. You will want to make sure you have one or two of everything so that you can make any drink that comes your way. First, make sure you purchase the basic spirits: Vodka, Whisky, Tequila, Rum, Gin, and Scotch.
Keeping It Simple
Although you may want to purchase flavoured or specialty varieties of all of those spirits, you should still always have plain, regular versions because when you mix drinks (for example, a White Russian) you do not want to be mixing a blueberry flavoured vodka with your Kahlua. Once you have the primary spirit types, you can then go ahead and purchase any flavoured versions you may want.
Next, you will want to purchase some common spirit types that many people enjoy and use by name:
- Irish Cream (Baileys)
- Coffee Liquor (Kahlua)
- Jagermeister
- Blue Curacao
There are many different types you will need to purchase. Lucky for you, alcohol lasts a long time, so even if you do not use some of them for a year or more they are not getting old anytime soon.
Non-Alcoholic Drinks
Next you will want to get any of the non-alcohol drinks in stock that you need to ensure you can make most common mixed drinks. This includes: Tonic water, Sprite, Coke, Red Bull, Semi or Whole Milk, Juices (cranberry, orange, strawberry, lemonade, lime juice etc.)
You are also going to want to have red and white wine available too, as well as a few prime beers, as not everyone is going to want to have a mixed drink.
Finally, never forget to have plenty of ice available, and always have condiments on hand, like olives and cherries. You may also want salt and sugar for the rims of glasses.
