Irish Pub Furniture

For anyone that has been to many different kinds of bars and alcohol establishments, you can tell there are many differences depending on the type of bar you go into. An Irish bar is no exception. Irish bars have a very distinct look due to their predilection towards wood and casual atmosphere.

What is Irish Pub Furniture?

Irish pubs are a testament to classic pub furniture. In Irish bars, you are unlikely to see many contemporary styles, dark furnishings or other more modern décor.

Instead, Irish pub furniture tends to be of a more classic style. Wood is a recurring theme, as anyone that has been to an Irish pub will notice the large wooden tables as well as wooden benches. The lighting tends to be brighter, as Irish pubs are designed for casual drinking with friends and acquaintances. The furnishings are designed to be social, but a far different type of social than many newer pubs and bars where elegancy and smoothness is key. Irish “social” is far friendlier, with less inhibition.

Home Bar

The bar itself may have many engravings, and you will notice if you ever see an Irish home bar that it is fairly extravagant; rather than being a table with a back for holding liquor, it is an entire wooden structure with its own large walls and linings, each with their own engravings. Irish bars are the types of bars that are found at antique stores.

More recently, Irish pub furniture has tried to merge itself with more modern styles. Fixed pub seating, for example, often has cushions or curved designs, which is contrary to more classic Irish pub furniture, but it general the style has remained fairly static, as it continues to be a popular style found in thousands of bars and pubs all across the country.
