Keg Tapping Instructions
Everyone has been to a party that has had a keg on hand, but few people know exactly how to tap a keg.
If you are about to hang a keg party, here are your keg tapping instructions, so that you dont quickly embarrass yourself by fumbling around with your keg.
Step 1 Get a Keg Coupler
The Coupler is specific to the type of keg you have, but you need to get the correct keg coupler or there is going to be no way for you to correctly open your keg. Before tapping your keg, make sure its faucet is off.
Step 2 Place the Coupler
Place the coupler on top of the seal of the keg and push down. Once you have pushed down, you should have broken the seal. Once you have broken the seal, continue to push downwards and turn the coupler clockwise as far as it can go.
Step 3 Drink
Not too difficult right? Tapping a keg is not one of the most complicated procedures, but there are several things you will need to keep in mind if you want to make sure you do not ruin the keg:
- Do not shake the can too much in transport or before serving. If you do, the beer will become increasingly foamy, possibly spray everywhere when you tap it, and lose a great deal of its carbonation. If it shook during transport, wait a few hours before serving.
- Dont forget that you want the bear to be cold. So remember to put the keg in a giant bucket of ice or some other type of cooler to ensure that it remains cool.
- You will need to remove a few glasses full of foam before the beer is going to come out, so make sure you have some cups ready so that you can quickly get rid of any access head.
