Stemless Wine Glasses
When an individual thinks about wine glasses, they immediately think about the standard wine glass with the curved bowl, long stem and standard base. But one of the pieces of glassware that is currently growing in popularity is that of the stemless wine glass.
Stemless wine glasses are, essentially, wine glasses without the stem or base. Instead, the bottom of the wine glass is slightly flattened, to allow the bowl to sit on the table without tipping. The bowls of these wine glasses are designed for the same purposes – They enhance the aroma, they keep the wine at its full flavor, etc., but the stem and base are simply removed.
Why Stemless?
One of the reasons people choose stemless wine glasses is for ease of cleanup. Unlike standard wine glasses, the stemless ones easily fit into the dishwasher as well as into the cabinets. In addition, stemless wine glasses can be used for multiple beverages, not just wine, and their curved design fits almost any occasion regardless of how formal it is.
Stemless wine glasses are far less likely to be knocked over and are also more enjoyable to hold. They fit in the palm of your hand, so you can simply let it rest in your fingers rather than grip it was you socialize at the party.
That said, there is still a downside to stemless wine glasses – they are very prone to warming, since your hand needs to be around the glass to hold it. Wine glasses with stems are designed to keep fingers away from the bowl, so that the wine does not warm, and obviously stemless glasses do not have that luxury.
Still, despite that one shortcoming, stemless wine glasses are basically smaller, easier to hold versions of their stemmed counterparts. And for those with a small dishwasher, they may be a good way to avoid having to hand clean your dishes.
