Winter Cocktail Dresses
Winter is a time of family, holidays, great parties and… Cold weather. That’s right, while you’re preparing yourself for the holiday parties and reunions with family and friends; you’re likely to get a few chills just thinking about the snow and ice that’s likely to greet you along the way.
Even with the heat cranked to full blast, there’s no guarantee you’ll keep warm throughout the events. Before you go and shove that hot new winter cocktail dress of yours into the back of the closet, here’s a few pointers on how you can look great, and keep warm at the same
time:
- Nylons or stockings - If it’s cold out you might be surprised just how much of a difference a simple pair of stockings makes for those bare legs when wearing a dress.
- Close-toe shoes - The main parts of your body that release heat is your head, fingers, and toes. Cover your feet as much as possible without sacrificing the look you’re going for.
- Warm Coat - Arriving in layers is ok, so there is no need to suffer in the name of high fashion. A little matching between coat and outfit can go a long way.
- Dressy Jacket - It’s not hard to find elegant wraps or jackets to go with your dress. Since you can never predict how warm it will be at your destination, it wouldn’t hurt to be prepared.
- Gloves - If it’s a formal event then silk or satin gloves would be the perfect thing to wear to help keep your hands feeling warm and ready for anything.
- Hair Styles - Wearing your hair down covers more neck area, keeping some of the body heat in. You might get chills from the cool breezes if your hair is worn up.
Choosing Fabric According to Season
Winter has its own set of fabrics and styles. Here are some suggestions:
- Wool
- Knit crochet
- Sheep skin
- Leather
- Polyester
Cotton is generally worn all year round. If you want to stay warm though, try getting a combination of cotton and wool or polyester. Again, there’s no need for you to suffer for your fashion.
All these materials can easily be dressed up or down with accessories.
Seasonal Colors
When choosing a dress go with winter colors such as:
- Gray
- Crimson
- Black
- Dark brown
- Dark blue
Following these steps will help you to strike a balance between fashion and practicality. A winter cocktail dress need not sit in the back of your closet any longer. Pull it out, accessorize, and go have yourself some winter time fun!
