Home Remedies for Hangovers
It happens. You go out. You have a little fun. The next morning you realize you may have had a little too much fun and now your head is pounding and you are willing to try anything to stop the miserable pain you are feeling. You're dealing with a hangover.
So, how do you stop the pain?
Well if it's already the morning after there are a few options.
First, take something for the pain, such as ibuprofen or asprin. Next, You need to eat and drink, but the right things.
When it comes to eating, think fruit. You want to get any alcohol that is left in your body out. The fructose in fruit helps your body burn through alcohol, so grab a piece of fruit. Also, Honey has a lot of fructose, so you can have some honey on bread or crackers to help. You also need to eat a healthy, well-balanced meal to help your body replace any other nutrients it has lost as a result of your binge.
Drink, drink, drink, but water this time. Alcohol has likely dehydrated your body. You need to give it the water it needs to recover. Drinking fruit juice gives you some hydration and also helps burn off any remaining alcohol. Also, having a couple cups of bouillon broth is a good idea. In addition to adding water, it will also give you some of the potassium and salt you need to replenish.
Preventing a Hangover
The best way to deal with a hangover is not to have one in the first place. Here are a few tips to help:
Drink water. Before you go to bed for the night, drink a couple of glasses of water. Part of the pain from a hangover is because your body is so dehydrated. Water will help your body regain some of that hydration and may make the morning a little less painful. Have a glass by the bed that you can sip on if you wake up during the night.
Eat before you go to sleep. If you can, have a light meal before you go to bed (nothing too rich or fattening). You want something healthy that will start putting nutrients back in your body as you sleep. They may also help speed up the metabolism of the alcohol through your body.
Take your vitamins. Taking B-complex vitamins is a good idea. These are usually vitamins that you should take when stressed, and there is not much more stressful than what your body is going through binge drinking.
