Hot apple cider is a favorite drink for adults over the cold winter months. Enjoying the hot apple cider with some spiced rum added makes the drink even better. Those holiday nights can be both cold and boring. Having a few friends over and enjoying some hot apple cider with some kick is a great way to help reduce the drag of winter and share some quality time with your friends and family.
So What Ingredients Do We Needs?
To make hot apple cider with spiced rum, you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 gallon of apple cider
- 10 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon of ground allspice
- Spiced Rum
- 1½ teaspoons of ground clove
- 1 grated lemon rind
In order to create the ultimate holiday spiced rum, start by pouring the apple cider into a large saucepan, and add the cinnamon, ground lemon, clove and allspice. Bring the rum to a boil for about 5 minutes.
After boiling, reduce the heat and let sit for 15 minutes. As it is resting, add the rum. As with most alcoholic beverages, more rum=better, but if you are truly attempting to savor the cider you may want to refrain from excessive amounts of alcohol.
After the 15 minutes are done, grab a metal strainer and serve only after straining the cider. If the allspice, lemon, clove and cinnamon sticks are still in the drink, expect unhappy guests.
This recipe does work without the spiced rum, in case you need to create a virgin drink for friends or children, but the added spices in the rum complement the cider’s flavor.
As far as the choice of rums, Captain Morgan’s spiced rum is especially tasty in this beverage, but the taste of the cinnamon will help add enough flavor that any spiced rum will do.
