The Cosmopolitan is probably one of the most well known cocktail drinks, first seen in the 1980s but largely made famous thanks to the iconic Sex and The City TV show. It’s a classic Martini recipe that bartenders all over the world are sure to know how to make, and has a light and fruity taste that makes it a particularly drinkable and pleasant cocktail.

There are a number of variations of the Cosmo recipe, some with different liqueurs and different quantities according to preference. But, to enjoy this classic cocktail at home, here’s the traditional recipe.

To make the cocktail, simply mix all of the ingredients together with ice in a cocktail shaker. Once fully mixed, strain the drink into a chilled Martini glass and garnish with a wedge of lime or a twist of orange zest, depending on preference.

This recipe will give you one glass of Cosmopolitan; for more than one serving simply multiply the quantities accordingly. For slight variations on this traditional recipe why not try using flavoured vodkas, or, as in some recipes, swap the Cointreau for Triple Sec for a different flavour.

Other variations involve using different juices, for example, or for the health conscious drinker there’s the option of using a smaller quantity of vodka and a low-calorie version cranberry juice. There are plenty of options and variations to try, so why not spend the time trying a few out to find the best Cosmopolitan taste for you.
