The Pina Colada is probably one of the most well-known tropical styled cocktails, and is sure to be one of the creamiest. It’s known the world over and you’ll be hard pressed to find someone that hasn’t tried one, and it’s particularly favoured by people who like their cocktails thick, creamy and fruity.

The Pina Colada is a rum-based cocktail with a strong pineapple and coconut flavour, and is just as enjoyable to drink at home as it is in a cocktail bar. It’s easy to make as well, so here’s the classic Pina Colada cocktail recipe.

To make the cocktail, simply put all of the ingredients into an electric blender with crushed ice. Blend together until thick and creamy, before pouring into a hurricane glass. Garnish with a wedge of pineapple, and if possible a pineapple leaf for added effect.

This classic frozen Pina Colada recipe is enjoyable just as it is, but there are a number of variations that can be created to add a new dimension. The ingredients can be shaken together instead of blended, or instead of using pineapple juice there’s the option of blending fresh pineapple for an even fruitier taste. For those who like extra coconut flavour just use coconut cream instead of half coconut and half plain, or use coconut-flavoured rum instead of a plainer one for even more of an impact.

Ultimately it’s down to personal preference, but whatever taste it desired the Pina Colada cocktail should be top on anyone’s list.
