The Rum Runner cocktail is probably one of the lesser well known cocktails, but is definitely worth trying for all cocktail lovers. It’s a particularly fruity rum-based cocktail and its tropical feel makes it perfect for summer.

The traditional Rum Runner recipe is quite strong, but extra juices can be added for those who want something that’s easier to drink; variations will be covered below. But, this is the traditional Rum Runner cocktail recipe.

Once you’ve got the ingredients, the making of the cocktail is actually very simple. Just put all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until thick and slushy. Pour into a glass, preferably a hurricane glass, then garnish and serve. Or, if you’re looking for something a bit less thick then swap the blender for a cocktail shaker.

As mentioned, there are several variations on this classic Rum Runner recipe. To make it a bit less alcoholic a lot of people like to reduce the quantity of rum and liqueurs and instead add orange or pineapple juice, or for a completely different and more tropical flavour there’s the option of swapping the dark or light rum for coconut-based rum instead.

At the end of the day it’s largely down to personal preference as to what quantities and strength of cocktail that you go for, but whichever recipe or variation is chosen, the Rum Runner is well worth trying out.
