The Bar Stool

While you can have a bar without barstools, you can't have a comfortable place to hang out without them. Imagine asking your friends and family to spend hours standing at your themed backyard bar. You're either going to be serving up a lot of drinks to counter sore feet or you're going to end up talking to yourself as they go somewhere else where they are allowed to sit down and enjoy their drink.

It's time to select some bar stools.

There are a few things you need to keep in mind as you begin this purchase.

Is your bar inside or outside? While there are a great number and styles of bar stools on the market, they will not all do well in an outdoor environment. If you are creating a backyard getaway, make sure to read if the bar stools are good in all weather conditions.

Next, are you going to have people sitting there for just a few minutes, or is your bar going to be a place of conversation? This will have an impact on the kinds of bar stools you choose. If you want your guests to be comfortable and be able to kick back while they talk to you, you need to make sure the bar stools have back rests and possible arm rests that will offer a relaxing seat.

What about dangling feet? Without foot rests your guests will have their feet dangling from the chair seat. This can be annoying and may cause your guests to avoid the bar stools. If you choose swiveling bar stools, look for ones that have foot rests all the way around, so your guests are not shocked when they try to put a foot down, while facing a different direction, and nothing's there.

The final consideration on the comfort level is padding. If you want the bar to be a place where people are comfortable talking it up for hours on end, you want them to not have a sore backside. Look for padded bar stool seats that offer a comfortable place to rest their derriere while they drink up your latest spirited concoction.

Be prepared to pay for quality. Good bar stools are not cheap. They will set you back a few dollars. But if you make sure you buy quality bar stools, that will hold up to your use, and abuse, they will pay for themselves by sticking around in years to come.
